Carl Weathers (born January 14, 1948 in New Orleans , Louisiana ) is an American actor and former American football player. He gained particular fame for his portrayal of the boxer Apollo Creed in the first four parts of the Rocky film series . To date, he has appeared in over 75 film and television roles.

life and work

Before becoming an actor, he played professional American football for the Oakland Raiders of the National Football League (NFL) for several years . From 1971 to 1973 he played for the BC Lions in the Canadian Football League (CFL). In 1974 he ended his sports career and took on smaller film roles, such as alongside Pam Grier in the blaxploitation crime thriller Friday Foster - In the Web of the Black Spider and Bucktown from 1975.

His breakthrough came with the role of Apollo Creed in Rocky in 1976 , which he also played in parts II to IV. Another high point of his career was Predator , where he had to face an alien hunter alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger . But it wasn't until 1988 that Weathers got his first leading role in the movie Action Jackson , which, however, could not convince at the box office or the criticism. After that, his career flattened and he mainly took on TV roles.

From 1991 to 1993 he played the lead role in the television series The Law of the Road . In 2012 he starred as General McKraken in Thunder Levin's science fiction film American Warships .

Since 1993, Weathers has occasionally appeared as a director. He mainly directed several episodes of various series, most often for the Palm Beach Duo .

Carl Weathers married Mary Ann Castle in 1973, but is divorced from her. They have two children together.
