Hidden Figures: The Album contains the soundtrack for Hidden Figures . The soundtrack was produced by Pharrell Williams , who composed the music together with Hans Zimmer and Benjamin Wallfisch . On December 9, 2016, the soundtrack was released by Columbia Records .

In April 2016 it was announced that Pharrell Williams was taking over the production of the film Hidden Figures in musical terms and making the music selection. For productions of this kind, Williams founded the creative company i am OTHER Entertainment in 2012 . Williams took on the design of the overall musical concept and the soundtrack for the film, which also contains several tracks written by Williams, such as the songs Crave , Runnin ' and Surrender, which were published in advance in October and November 2016. The soundtrack also includes songs by Alicia Keys , Mary J. Blige , Lalah Hathaway , Kim Burrell and Janelle Monáe , some of whom are sung together with Williams, who can be seen in a leading role in the film. Some of the songs, like the song Apple , which Williams sings with Keys, are accompanied by rhythmic clapping like many of his songs.

Williams composed the film music together with Hans Zimmer , with whom he already worked as part of the Magnificent Six for the soundtrack of the film The Amazing Spider-Man 2: Rise of Electro . Also was Benjamin Wallfisch involved in the work of film music.

As part of the Toronto International Film Festival 2016 , a small concert was held in September, at which Kim Burrell and Pharrell Williams first presented the gospel song I See a Victory , which is on the soundtrack . Williams also presented the song Runnin ' in Toronto . This song and the songs Crave and Surrender were released in advance in November 2016. The Motown- style song Able was released in early December 2016.

The soundtrack comprises a total of ten tracks and was released on December 9, 2016 by Columbia Records . On December 9, 2016, the day the soundtrack was released, Williams presented the song Runnin ' as part of the Citi Concert Series in New York. Together with Kim Burrell he also sang the song I See a Victory there .

In December 2016, the soundtrack was included in the list of candidates (longlist) at the Academy Awards 2017 in the category Best Film Music , from which the members of the Academy will determine the official nominations. The songs I See a Victory and Runnin ' on the soundtrack were included in the longlist for Best Movie Song .

After Kim Burrell , who sang the song I See a Victory for the soundtrack, condemned homosexuality as a "pervert" in a sermon at the Love & Liberty Fellowship Church in Houston in December 2016 , Pharrell Williams , Octavia Spencer and Janelle Monáe spoke briefly then against these statements made by the gospel singer. Williams wrote in a message on Twitter: “I condemn hate speech of any kind. There is no place in this world for any kind of prejudice. My greatest hope is integration and love for all of humanity in 2017 and beyond. "
