Alison Wright (born July 12, 1976 in Sunderland , Tyne and Wear ) is a British actress . She gained fame primarily through the role of Martha Hanson from the series The Americans , for which she was nominated for an Emmy , among other things .

life and career

Alison Wright is from Sunderland, in north east England. She grew up with adoptive parents. She started dancing at a young age. Wright names Carol Burnett's portrayal in the 1982 film Annie as a decisive factor in turning to acting . Today she has good relationships with much of her biological family. After graduating from high school, she studied at the Lee Strasberg Theater and Film Institute in New York City.

She got her first acting role in front of the camera as Bridget in the US drama Nanny Diaries from 2007. After appearing in several short films and the series Blue Bloods - Crime Scene New York , she was shown in the role of Martha Hanson for the series The Americans occupied. She played the role until a total of 2017 and was part of the main cast from the second to the fourth season. Her acting performance earned her numerous nominations for major television awards in 2017, including the Emmy and the Satellite Award . In 2016 she made her acting debut on Broadway in the play Spit . She also appeared in the role of Justine in the thriller The Accountant .

In 2015, Wright was cast as Marjorie in a supporting role for the series Sneaky Pete , in which she could be seen until the end of the series in 2019. In 2017, she was in the only published season of the series Feud - The Enmity Between Bette and Joan as Pauline Jameson . In 2019 she played a supporting role as Valorie in the series Castle Rock . Since 2020 she can be seen in the science fiction series Snowpiercer as Ruth Wardell in one of the leading roles. Wright has lived in Harlem, New York, since the 1990s .
