occupation

The Killing is an American crime series that was produced from 2010 to 2014 as a remake of the Danish crime series Kommissarin Lund - Das Verbrechen .

action

The action takes place in Seattle , Washington state . In the first and second seasons, each episode is roughly 24 hours. In the third and fourth seasons there are also longer periods of time between the individual episodes.

season 1

The first season deals with the investigation and clarification of the murder of the young girl Rosie Larsen. Different storylines show the investigations of Detective Linden and her partner Detective Holder, on the one hand, and the family, which has to learn to deal with the loss of their daughter, on the other; as well as the election campaign for mayor, which is stalling. The actions and the characters are largely linked.

season 2

The second season continues the investigation to solve the Rosie Larsen murder. Further secrets of the Larsen family are revealed and the machinations between the mayoral election campaign, politics and the Seattle Police Department are exposed. At the end of the season, Rosie Larsen's killer and other people involved are exposed.

season 3

Season 3 takes place a year after the Larsen case. Detective Holder discovers various similarities to one of Linden's past murders in a murdered runaway. Although someone has already been caught and convicted as a perpetrator, the real perpetrator still appears to be active. Linden, who no longer works for the homicide squad, returns to uncover the case with Holder.

Season 4

Season 4 follows the end of the third season. After Linden and Holder try to cover up Lieutenant Skinner's murder, they both face a murder of a family of four in which the only survivor, the son, is a cadet at a private military academy. Meanwhile, Detective Reddick investigates Skinner's disappearance and finds out about them.

production

After AMC had ordered a pilot film in January 2010, a complete season with 13 episodes was ordered in August 2010. Production of the pilot began on December 2, 2010 and was filmed in Vancouver , British Columbia , Canada. It was written and produced by Veena Sud and directed by Patty Jenkins . In June 2011 it was announced that AMC had ordered a second season, also comprising 13 episodes, due to good audience ratings, which will be broadcast from April 1, 2012. At the end of July 2012, AMC's series was initially due to be discontinued due to unsatisfactory audience ratings.

In November 2012 it was announced that AMC and the video-on-demand provider Netflix were in negotiations about a possible participation by Netflix in the production costs for a third season. A few weeks later, the series' writers began work on a third season, although AMC has not yet issued an official announcement about another season. During the negotiations with Netflix it was announced that an agreement had been reached between the production studio Fox Television Studios and the TV broadcaster AMC and that the series should be extended for another season in which another case should be resolved. Production work for this season began on February 25, 2013 in Vancouver. This season was broadcast from June 2 to August 4, 2013.

After this season, the series was discontinued until mid-November 2013, Netflix commissioned a six-episode fourth and final season, which was released on August 1, 2014.
