William Oliver Campbell (born July 7, 1959 in Charlottesville , Virginia ) is an American actor .

Life

When Campbell was two years old, his parents divorced and they both married several times. The marriages resulted in a total of six more half-siblings for Bill. Parents separated, Campbell was at home both on his mother's horse ranch in Charlottesville and in Chicago with his father, a real estate agent.

In Virginia he attended military school for several years. Subsequent to high school, he showed his first creative traits, including drawing comics. During an audition at high school, he was hired for a school production ( The Man Who Came To Dinner ) and thus got to know acting for the first time. Nevertheless, after high school he showed no ambition to establish his acting skills, but mainly occupied himself with rugby and alcohol.

In his early twenties, however, Campbell decided to change his life, moved to his father in Chicago and attended the American Academy of Art to become a professional comic artist. During his training, he attended various acting courses with a friend and only then realized that acting was his vocation. He traveled to the West Coast to pursue his acting career, receiving a small role in the film Family Ties and a guest appearance on the television series Hotel . Campbell became famous for the role of Luke Fuller, Steven Carrington's gay friend in the series The Denver Clan . Then in 1986 he got a permanent place in the NBC series Crime Story . But it wasn't until 1991 that his career took off with the Disney film Rocketeer . After this production he appeared in Bram Stoker's Dracula, among others.

A year later, Campbell started a Broadway career and appeared on stage in the play Hamlet . But his stage career did not last long. A year later he was to be seen again on television, in the detective series Moon over Miami , which was not very successful. He played many supporting roles in secondary productions and last played a leading role alongside Jennifer Lopez in 2002 .

Bill Campbell is considered a die-hard bachelor in the media because he has never been married to this day. The liaison with US actress Jennifer Connelly , whom he met and fell in love with on the Rocketeer set , lasted for 5 years. He was previously engaged to actress Virginia Madsen . In 2000, People magazine voted him one of the 50 most beautiful men in the world.
