Patricia Lea "Patty" Jenkins (born July 24, 1971 at George Air Force Base in Victorville , California ) is an American film director .

Life

Patty Jenkins came to film at the age of 14 while doing an internship at Allen Ginsberg on the set of the documentary The River City Reunion , which is about the Beat Generation .

After finishing school, she began studying painting and then switched to the Cooper Union in New York to study film. She then worked as a camera assistant for commercials and music videos. In 2001 she graduated from the American Film Institute with a degree in directing . In the same year she made her first short films . Her debut feature film, Monster , appeared in 2003 and took part in the 2004 Berlinale competition. The leading actress Charlize Theron was awarded the Silver Bear at this Berlinale and received the Oscar for this role in the same year . After her success with Monster , Patty Jenkins worked primarily as a director for television.

In 2015 it was announced that Jenkins would be directing the comic book adaptation Wonder Woman (2017) set in the DC Extended Universe . The film received positive reviews and is also successful at the box office.

Following Wonder Woman's commercial success, Jenkins negotiated a back-end deal for the sequel in the summer of 2017, making her the highest-paid director yet. She will receive $ 7-9 million for her work on the DC project.
