Terror Firmer is a 1999 Troma production and directed by Lloyd Kaufman , who also played one of the lead roles.

A crazy serial killer is raging in Tromaville, the police have no trace of him yet. Larry Benjamin is a blind director who is working on a new installment in the Toxic Avenger series. He is supported by a crude film team, more precisely a gang of freaks, idiots and pseudo movie stars. Among them are SFX man Jerry, a budding director named Jennifer, who takes care of her old, sick mother at night, and the sound engineer and blockbuster fan Casey. A competition develops between the two guys for Jennifer's favor, which Casey seems to win.

When PA man “Toddster” leaves the film team after a dispute with Jerry, the series of murders also reaches the film team. A mysterious, strange woman appears at his college party and seduces him. After a rabid enema, she stabs him with his own bong . Next up is the sleazy producer of the film, who is crushed by an escalator and literally "loses his head". Meanwhile, Casey seems to end up with Jennifer. The big Spielberg fan impressed the young girl. Even the first sex with the help of pickled gherkins makes Jennifer horny. A little later, the murderer hits the film set. The police interrogate the team, but cannot track down the perpetrator. So you let everything go on. At the end of the day, there's no one left to play Toxie. However, the plot stipulates that a “reverse rape” with his psychiatrist should now take place. Jerry and Jennifer are soon obliged to play this part. During the act, the two fall in love and have sex in front of the camera.

Casey is distraught and leaves the set in anger. After a few more murders it is clear: He is the murderer. Only the motive is unclear. Jennifer goes unsuspecting into his apartment and confronts him. Casey reveals that he is a hermaphrodite who was sexually abused by his father . In revenge, he mutilated his father and held him prisoner. When the two of them sing Amazing Grace , Jennifer manages to escape. However, Casey catches up with her on the set and threatens the rest of the members with a bomb. During the showdown, Larry Benjamin dies when he pounces on the bomb. Jerry survives seriously injured and Casey dies. With the help of Benjamin's speech-impaired daughter and Jerry, Jennifer finishes the film in honor of the late director.

The film is loosely based on Lloyd Kaufman's book All I Need to Know About Filmmaking I Learned from the Toxic Avenger . The independent film , like all Troma movies, with numerous splatter effects and lots of black humor enriched. As with Tromeo & Julia, Lemmy Kilmister and Ron Jeremy are there as guest stars . The former gives a fiery speech for the equality of hermaphrodites at the end, while the latter took on the role of Casey's father. Dolphin Man, Toxie and Sgt. Kabukiman NYPD can also be seen in guest roles, as well as a number of Troma accessories from previous films. Several punk and metal bands such as Lunachicks , Less Than Jake , Sick of It All , NOFX and Gwar took part in the soundtrack .

In order to receive an FSK 18 approval, the film had to be cut by a total of 16 minutes in Germany. An FSK 16 version was also checked, but it was never published. The Austrian version came in a slipcase and contains the unrated version.

Reviews

Like all Troma films, the film is primarily aimed at a genetic republic. In the mainstream press, therefore, mainly bad reviews were published, describing the film as “a horror comedy that is difficult to credit”, “which wants to offer a satirical look behind the scenes of its own production facility.” This is true among fans of horror, trash and slasher films satirical horror comedy as one of the better works of Troma.
