Adriaan Geuze
Adriaan Geuze (born October 28, 1960 in Dordrecht ) is a Dutch landscape architect and was visiting professor at Harvard University until 2007 . In 1987 he founded the architecture office West 8 Urban Design & Landscape Architecture together with Paul van Beek .
plant
West 8 designed, among other things, a radical concept for the planting around Schiphol and a striking “shell landscape” at the foot of the Oosterschelde storm surge barrier . The office was also responsible for the restoration of Rotterdam's Schouwburgplein in the 1990s. In December 2007, it won the prestigious architectural competition for a new park on Governors Island , New York .
An important topic for West 8 is increasing urbanization and the associated shrinking of natural and recreational areas. To solve this problem, the office makes various contributions, such as the training of so-called "Happy Isles" off the coast from Dunkerque to Texel . The islands are located 25 kilometers west of today's coastline and are intended to protect the Netherlands against strong waves in the first place.
