action

Tobias is married to Anika and they have three children together. Tobias runs an architecture office with his partner Thomas. Actually, he could be a happy man. But Tobias is an alcoholic and is actually married to the bottle. And that's why his best friend “Bottle” also plays the main role in his life. Bottle has accompanied him through every life situation since Tobias drank his first sip as a teenager. Accompanied by a bottle, every visit to the disco and every party night is even more beautiful - and wilder and more unreal, even if the hangover is inevitable the next morning. But what is the best medicine for a hangover? The next sip of the good drop, of course. The pressure on Tobias increases. His escapades only cause difficulties for his partner Thomas. And family life is also increasingly out of balance. When Tobias and his family narrowly avoid an accident due to his drunk driving, he begins to rethink his drinking habits. He realizes that the friendship with Bottle is not good for him. But by the time he wants to get rid of his best friend, it is too late. After all, his overly affectionate companion “bottle” is none other than Tobias' alcohol addiction himself. And nobody is better trained to sabotage any attempts at improvement.

criticism

The film service judges, "the fairytale tragic comedy about the growing loss of reality of an alcoholic is told with many bizarre diversions". The film shines "through the improvisational art of the convincing main actors, but also through a melancholy realism that invites you to relentlessly reflect on life".

Kaspar Heinrich writes for Der Spiegel : “Because that is precisely why the film achieves what not only German films do far too seldom: It skillfully combines a supposedly taboo subject with humor. What could easily have turned into transfiguration or hopelessly silly, in combination with the very own, anarchic Ranisch sound, turns into a completely relaxed confrontation with the subject of addiction. The trio of authors masters a difficult balancing act: a tragic comedy that is great fun and never reveals its characters. "

The German Film and Media Assessment (FBW) comes to the conclusion: “Such a topic has seldom been told so particularly and impressively. Ranisch's new film is honest, relentless and yet again and again dreamily absurd. Great German cinema. "
