Thomas Fränzel (* 1979 in Erfurt ) is a German actor .

Life

After graduating from high school in Erfurt and doing a traineeship at the radio, the son of a jazz saxophonist initially carried out various activities in film and theater. From 2002 to 2006 he studied acting at the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts in Berlin . While still a student, he got the lead role in Vanessa van Houten's debut feature House of Wishes . The short film The Girl with the Yellow Stockings with Thomas Fränzel and Rosalie Thomass in the leading roles was awarded the German Short Film Prize in Gold in 2008 . In the Tatort episode Blood Wedding , shot in 2008 , Fränzel had a larger role alongside Peter Kremer , Eva Mattes and Petra Schmidt-Schaller . Fränzel played the main role of an idealistic young teacher in the graduation film Sufficient , which was screened at numerous international festivals and received the First Steps Award 2012 in the category “Feature film up to 60 minutes”. In the same year he was seen in a major supporting role in the movie Offroad at the side of Nora Tschirner and Elyas M'Barek . In 2013 he played with Maria Schrader and Ursula Werner in the film Sisters of Anne Wild . In 2014, he shot the improvisation film Alki, Alki by director Axel Ranisch in the role of a psychotherapist with Oliver Korittke and Iris Berben . The freelance actor was also seen at the theater, as a guest at the Maxim-Gorki-Theater in Berlin . He also works as a spokesperson for radio play productions, features and commercials in cinema and TV.
Thomas Fränzel is married to the actress Petra Schmidt-Schaller and has a daughter with her.
