The silent Mr. Genardy is a thriller by the director Carlo Rola from 1997. The literary film adaptation is based on a novel by the writer Petra Hammesfahr , who also wrote the screenplay . In the lead role embodies Iris Berben the vendor and single mother Sigrid Pelzer.

Sigrid Pelzer is a single mother and works as a saleswoman to earn a living and to provide for her little daughter's livelihood. Another way for her to supplement her small income is to sublet parts of her apartment. She is not entirely comfortable letting a stranger into her rooms, but the money she will earn from subletting her concerns at first suppressed.
So she lets Mr. Genardy, a stranger to her, an elderly gentleman with supposedly moral manners, move in with her. Mr. Genardy embodies decency in person; he is reserved and polite.
For Sigrid, her world suddenly changes when she learns that the daughter of her work colleague has mysteriously disappeared. Could the fine Mr. Genardy be behind it? Now she is scared for her own daughter.
Others
Iris Berben liked the novel by the writer Petra Hammesfahr so much that she personally campaigned to acquire the film rights to it. For this reason, she decided to play the role of the single parent Sigrid herself.
