The Mystery of the Yellow Cheetah is a German-French thriller of director Carlo Rola from 1990. In the lead role embodies Iris Berben the beautiful widow Miriam. Pierre Malet plays the veterinarian François, Susanne Lothar his wife Eliane. The film goes back to the novel by Pierre Boileau & Thomas Narcejac under the original title Maléfices , which was first published in Germany in 1962 under the German title The Secret of the Yellow Cheetah .
There is already a French film adaptation of Henri Decoin from 1962, which was published under the German title Das Haus der Sünde . The main roles are played there by Juliette Gréco , Jean-Marc Bory and Liselotte Pulver .

After the death of her husband, Miriam surrendered exclusively to the animal world, since she believes that animals are better people anyway . A wild cat, or more precisely, a cheetah , becomes her new and constant companion, with whom she even shares a bed.
When Miriam realizes that something is wrong with her cheetah and he is not feeling well, she calls the vet François, who can help the big cat. However, the acquaintance with the charming woman has unexpected consequences for the veterinarian. He soon finds himself in a quandary when he falls under the charm of Miriam without her intervention. Although he is happily married, he cannot escape the fascination of this woman.
It takes all his courage to give up Miriam and resist her attraction. But then strange things happen. First, François' wife Eliane is the victim of an accident that is accompanied by mysterious circumstances. The vet has a terrible suspicion, should it be that he is being followed by evil voodoo spirits? He suspects that the origin of this persecution could lie with the big cat. Has the cheetah kicked off these ghosts because it fears that François could take away his companion Miriam in order to make her his own?
