Joseph Henri Decoin (born March 18, 1890 in Paris , † July 4, 1969 in Neuilly-sur-Seine ) was a French swimmer , water polo player , screenwriter and film director .

Life

Henri Decoin took part in the 1908 Olympic Games in London as a young man . Over the 400 meter freestyle, however, he did not have a classified time. Four years later he was part of the French water polo team at the summer games in Stockholm , which finished fifth in the Olympic tournament. He scored one goal in the 7-2 loss to hosts Sweden .

His professional career started out as a sports journalist, wrote plays and screenplays and, first as an actor, came to film in 1925. In 1929 he became assistant director, a. a. with Carmine Gallone and Victor Tourjansky . He made his debut as a director in 1933. Decoin directed several films with his wife, actress Danielle Darrieux . The films made in the post-war period, for which Decoin often wrote the screenplay, followed the tried and tested patterns of entertainment cinema without any further claims.

His son Didier Decoin (* 1945) works as a writer.
