Razzia in Paris (original title: Razzia sur la chnouf) is a French crime film with Jean Gabin from 1955 based on the novel of the same name by Auguste Le Breton .

action

Henri “le Nantais” returns to France after traveling through Asia, Latin and North America. Because of his reputation for having done an excellent job for a US boss, the Paris drug lord Liski entrusts him with the operational management in Paris. Henri is supposed to take care of order in the "rotten" organization; as a camouflage he acts as the manager of a well-running restaurant. He enters into a relationship with the cashier Lisette.

Liski's two gorillas, "the Catalan" and Bibi, are given the name of a gang member, a smuggler who wants to get out of the business, from Henri. They rob him and kill him. Henri has the entire sales network demonstrated to the end users within the organization. He visits a laboratory in which the gang's chemist processes raw opium into heroin . A bicycle courier who siphoned off fabric on his own and sold it to an intermediary is killed on Liski's behalf. Meanwhile, Henri visits a Chinese-decorated opium hell. Shortly after a trip to Le Havre , during which he handed over 40 kilograms to English middlemen, the English were caught: there was a police raid in the restaurant. The police arrest everyone present and take Henri into the mangle. Once released, Henri deals with a broken, dependent small trader. She leads him to a bar where black men smoke marijuana. When "the Catalan" and Bibi later want to ambush Léa in a bar, the police await them there. They shoot two officers and flee. Liski offers them his remote hunting lodge in the country as a hiding place, and Henri drives them there. But soon the police arrive; Bibi and "the Catalan" are killed in the following shooting. At the same time, the police raided the scene in the city. Now "Henri le Nantais" can take off his mask, he is a police inspector.

background

The film architect was Raymond Gabutti .

criticism

Based on a crime novel by Le Breton - known for its harsh realism and gruff tone - a convincingly staged gangster film that illuminates the drug dealers' milieu perfectly. Exciting and cleverly made dramaturgically. "
