Magali Noël (1960)

Magali Noël (born June 27, 1932 as Magali Françoise Noëlle Camille Guiffray in Izmir , Turkey ; † June 23, 2015 in Châteauneuf-Grasse ) was a French actress and singer .

Life

Magali Noël was born in Turkey as the daughter of French diplomats from Provence who worked in the country and had an affinity for the stage from an early age. She began ballet training at an early age and took violin lessons at César Franck's school for ten years . At 15 she took acting lessons, after which she played theater on various stages, in Germany as a Molière interpreter. Later she kept returning to the theater for engagements; she played on various Parisian stages, including with Peter Ustinov .

At the age of 18 she made her film debut in a small role in Demain nous divorçons , a year later she got her first major role in Seul dans Paris at the side of Bourvil (as his wife). Because of the sleek and amazing simplicity of her portrayal, she was often cast as a femme fatale .

Noël worked in the film business to the end. She played in France, Italy, Germany, Great Britain and the United States in different genres, from comedy (for example with the Italian star comedian Totò ) to crime and thriller (The Snake) to socially critical tragedy (The Man Who Ruled Women) . Her filmography includes such well-known titles as Rififi , The Tropic of Cancer and The Death of Mario Ricci . She also appeared in front of the camera three times for Federico Fellini , in 1959 as Fanny in Das süße Leben , 1969 as Fortunata in Fellini's Satyricon and 1973 as Gradisca in Amarcord .

Her most famous song was Fais-moi mal, Johnny, written by Boris Vian . The song was one of the first rock 'n' roll titles with French lyrics.
