Sun, Wine and Hard Nuts is a German crime series that ran from September 25, 1979 to November 12, 1981 on ARD's early evening program . It is set on the French Mediterranean coast, where a retired German commissioner (portrayed by the "commissioner" Erik Ode ) helps the local police to investigate criminal cases.

action

Eric Ott was a police officer with the criminal investigation department in Germany for 40 years. After his retirement, he moved to his sister Ilse in Valbonne in the south of France . But instead of spending a quiet retirement there as he had hoped, he is immediately involved in a current crime, which Ott helps the local police to resolve. He is then repeatedly asked by his friend, the French Commissioner Giraud, for support in investigations into various criminal cases (break-ins, counterfeit money, drug smuggling, cardsharps).

background

Sun, wine and hard nuts were filmed exclusively in Provence and on the Côte d'Azur . In 1977, another retired detective investigated in the ZDF television series Zum kleine Fisch in southern France.

The participation of Erik Ode's wife Hilde Volk was a condition of Ode, because he did not want to be separated from her for so long for the filming. Since the films could not be interrupted by advertising at the time, the seven cases of the first season were shown in two parts in one evening. Erik Ode as Eric Ott gives a summary of the plot of the first part for the audience. In the second season, the episodes were then only half as long.

For scenes in which only French is spoken, Erik Ode summarizes the dialogues in German. In addition, he often talks off-screen. Reinhard Glemnitz (Ode's ex-assistant Heine from Der Kommissar ) has guest appearances ; This common past is alluded to several times in the form of inside jokes.

The French-sounding music was composed by the renowned German jazz musician Rolf Kühn . Most successful German detective novelists were responsible for the scripts, including Hansjörg Martin , Detlef Müller and Maria Matray .
