The film was shown on ORF on March 31, 2018.

action

The retired gendarme Simon Polt is actually happy with himself and the world. Instead of the Weinviertler Kellerfest Herbstzauber in the cellar street to mingle with the people, he preferred it with his friends press house to sit and his young wine to taste. After the festival, Laura Eichinger, the daughter of a respected winemaker, is missing and later found dead.

Polt makes a statement to the police officer responsible, Walter Grabherr, because shortly before her death he had observed Laura with a group of young people, including Benni and Gonzo. Laura's father later tells Polt that she was heavily drunk and drowned under drugs. According to the Grabherr, no traces of outside influence could be found. Laura's father asks Polt to ask around because the police do not want to deal with the case any further.

There he meets the somewhat quirky actress Mira Martell, who confronts Polt with high culture by reciting Japanese poems and Shakespeare . She feels guilty for advising Laura to get off the beaten path and start over on the night of her death. Also on the former village beauty and now alcoholic Grete Hahn and the cynical and self-destructive criminal police officer Ernst Zlabinger, who is inclined to alcohol and is a psychological wreck and is about to take early retirement.

Benni tells Polt that Gonzo sexually molested Laura shortly before her death and that a fight broke out between Gonzo and Benni. According to the Grabherr, who also asked Polt for support, and Gonzo's testimony, Laura was likely to have set off for home soon afterwards. Benni finally admits that the group had shot a cruel movie with Laura , and she was repeatedly dipped her head under water. According to Gonzo, however, she was still alive after that.

reception

The Heilbronn voice said that the film would breathe western air without actually being a western , with Simon Polt as the laconic western hero. Julian Pölsler would not be satisfied with simple black and white drawings, his characters would be multi-layered. The film is told slowly and would avoid excessive hectic or drama. "The look behind the bourgeois façades is a milieu study with pointed dialogues and interesting figures, all of whom have their parcels to carry."

Volker Bergmeister from tittelbach.tv found that Julian Roman Pölsler had made another wonderful film based on Alfred Komarek. Polt is an anachronism in the clocked, fast-moving television time. That would also apply to the staging.
