Flowers for Polt

Polt muss cry is an Austrian crime film from 2000. The film is based on the character of the gendarmerie officer Simon Polt by the Austrian author Alfred Komarek .

action

Real estate speculator Albert Hahn is found dead in his basement. He died of fermentation gas poisoning. The doctor responsible assumes an accident. But Polt knows that the dead were hated in the community. He suspects that the killer wanted death to look like an accident. Many of the winemakers have a motive. After a long investigation into the wine cellars, he discovers that all the cellars are connected by holes. But Polt does not want to leave the feeling that it was a murder. When he drinks some wine with his friends, they all confess what they had done. Together they poisoned Albert Hahn with the fermentation gas. But one of them wants to take all the blame on himself since two of the other have wives and children. He commits suicide and leaves a confession.

Production and publication

The film was produced by Teamfilm Wien in 2000 under the direction of Julian Pölsler , who also wrote the script. The music was composed by Hans-Jürgen Buchner. It was first broadcast on April 11, 2001 on ORF 2 , the television film was repeated on arte and 3sat and was also released on DVD in 2006.

reception

In 2002, the main actor Erwin Steinhauer won the Austrian television award Romy as Most Popular Actor . Komarek and Pölsler were awarded in the Best Screenplay category.

There were nominations for the 3sat audience award in 2001 and for the Adolf Grimme award in 2002.

The Rheinische Post describes the film in its online edition as a "successful mixture of a bizarre Heimatfilm and an exciting crime thriller."

Sequels

The film was followed by a total of five sequels by 2018, in each of which Erwin Steinhauer again took on the lead role.
