Friedrich Wilhelm von Klaß (born December 19, 1786 in Berlin , † May 18, 1850 in Erfurt ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

origin

Wilhelm was a son of Johann Heinrich von Klaß (1740–1815) and his wife Eva Katharina, born of Ludwig (1762–1830). His father was a privy councilor and director of the accounting chamber as well as a gentleman in Albertshagen, Eichow and Fuchsheim. His brother Albert (1801–1873) was a Prussian major general.

Military career

Klass became effective on February 1, 1800 as a Corporal Corporal in the Infantry Regiment "von Arnim" the Prussian army and advanced to early August 1805 second lieutenant . During the Fourth Coalition War , with the surrender of the fortress Stettin, he became a prisoner of war and was then made inactive.

After the Peace of Tilsit , Klaß was aggregated to the Guard Jäger Battalion on July 17, 1809, and on June 1, 1813, was assigned as Prime Lieutenant . During the Wars of Liberation he fought in the battles near Dresden , Leipzig , Brienne and Arcis-sur-Aube . For his behavior in the Battle of Paris , Klaß was awarded the Iron Cross 2nd class as a staff captain and the Order of St. Vladimir IV class.

After the war he was promoted to major and regular staff officer on November 9, 1816 . This was followed by a job as commander of the 1st and 2nd Jägerabteilung from February 24, 1824 . In this position, Klaß received the service cross in 1828 and was promoted to lieutenant colonel on March 30, 1832 with a patent from May 5, 1832 . Under awarding of the character as a colonel , he was appointed Brigadier 3rd gendarmerie brigade on 21 March 1834th After two years of service he was appointed 2nd Commander of the Erfurt Fortress and as such he was aggregated to the 1st and 2nd Jäger Battalion shortly afterwards. The patent for his rank was granted to Klaß on June 11, 1839 and on April 7, 1842 he was promoted to major general . From June 18, 1842, he received an allowance of 500 thalers for the duration of his employment. On September 23, 1844, King Friedrich Wilhelm IV awarded him the Order of the Red Eagle II. Class with Oak Leaves. Due to the revolutionary unrest , Klaß no longer felt himself to be equal to his position and was put on the disposition with the status of lieutenant general on December 7, 1848 with the statutory pension . He died on May 18, 1850 in Erfurt.
