action

The Frankfurt homicide squad is getting the committed inspector Jonas Birke as a new colleague. When he has just started work, his first case awaits him: A former police officer was killed in a hotel room. For Birke's superior Hajo Lehm, the crime seems to have already been resolved: Wolfram Ernst, a convicted criminal, has committed the crime in his eyes in order to avenge himself for an earlier arrest.

But Birke, who takes a close look at the circumstantial evidence , overcomes the first doubts: Apparently Ernst has announced that unusual incidents that have taken place in the Frankfurt police and are close to corruption will be made public. In addition, his statements would probably have meant the end of their careers for several people from business and the police. Birke suspects that his arrest, for which, in the opinion of his superior, he wanted to take revenge against these serious allegations, is merely an alleged motive. In view of the fact that Ernst vehemently denies the allegations against him, his ambition is now completely aroused, and he begins to conduct further investigations.

Ernst has an alibi for the time of the crime : He claims to have spent the night with Isabel, the wife of the well-known and prominent real estate agent Wellingsen. He investigates this statement, which at first glance is implausible, a hot lead for Birke, and meets Isabel Wellingsen at a party in a posh Frankfurt hotel. To his surprise, she immediately answers his request to answer a few questions about this. The fact that Ms. Wellingsen confirms Ernst's alibi in his questioning, which he conducts together with his colleague Adler, confirms Birke's assumption, and he is initially proud to be on the right track.

In the further course, however, it turns out that Birke has fallen into a trap: he himself was apparently only used to prove the guilt of the convicted Ernst and thus to track down the real murderer, who was hired by the Frankfurt police blur. He is thus part of the seemingly perfect plan to get an unloved confidante out of the way.

The case takes another turn when Ms. Wellingsen gives Birke a crucial tip that prompts him to investigate further. Her life is in danger when Birke puts the tip into practice and obviously again puts his trust in the wrong people: When the real estate agent realizes that she has betrayed him, he takes his wife to a remote place and wants to kill her. Birke pursues the two with his car and prevents them from doing so.
