Kai Hermann
Kai Hermann (born January 29, 1938 in Hamburg ) is a German journalist , publicist and author .
Life
After studying history and political science at the universities of Tübingen , Hamburg , Vancouver and Harvard , Kai Hermann was initially editor and Berlin correspondent of the time from 1963 . There he announced his resignation when he was announced that he would be transferred to the editor's letter service because of his critical reporting in connection with the unrest after the assassination attempt on Rudi Dutschke . In 1969 he moved to Spiegel as a foreign correspondent . In October 1971 he took over the post of for a few monthsEditor-in-chief of the youth magazine twen until it had to stop its publication for financial reasons. From 1972 to 1978 Hermann was a permanent employee of stern , he also wrote sporadically for other magazines, for example since 1974 for concrete .
In the spring of 1978, Kai Hermann and Horst Rieck interviewed the teenage drug addict and procurement prostitute Christiane Felscherinow ("Christiane F."). The tape protocols written down by Hermann and Rieck were published in autumn 1978 as a book under the title Wir Kinder vom Bahnhof Zoo after a partial preprint in stern . This became the best-selling book in the Federal Republic of Germany in 1980 and 1981, translated into 15 languages and to date (2006) has sold more than three million copies worldwide. Wir Kinder vom Bahnhof Zoo is compulsory reading in many German schools . Kai Hermann has been a freelance journalist, author and screenwriter since 1978 . Together with Margarethe von Trotta and Jean-Claude Carrière , Hermann wrote the screenplay for the feature film Die Fälschung (1981, director: Volker Schlöndorff ) based on the novel of the same name by Nicolas Born . The main character of the novel and the film, a journalist named Georg Laschen, played by Bruno Ganz in the film , was modeled on the real person Kai Hermann by Nicolas Born.
In 2001 Hermann published his only fiction work, the youth novel Engel und Joe , which goes back to a true incident he researched. In the same year he also wrote the screenplay for the film adaptation of the book under the same title Engel and Joe , directed by Vanessa Jopp . Robert Stadlober and Jana Pallaske play the title roles .
In 2003 Kai Hermann largely retired from professional life. However, in 2004 he co-authored Udo Lindenberg's autobiography Panikpräsident . Hermann, who has received several prestigious journalism prizes, lives in the village of Jasebeck ( Damnatz municipality ) in Lower Saxony ( Lüchow-Dannenberg district ).
In an interview with Die Zeit in the issue of June 14, 2017, when asked what the success of the 1968 movement consisted of for him, Hermann said : “The students have cleared up the remaining fascist stocks at the universities and democratized West Germany sustainably. Otherwise, 1968 was mostly rock'n roll. ”Hermann sees the anti-authoritarian impulses of the movement at that time largely exhausted with reference to the“ repressive tolerance ”in the sense of Herbert Marcuse .
