Horst Rieck (* 1941 in Berlin ) is a German journalist.

Life

Since the late 1960s, Rieck has been writing for Spiegel , stern , Die Zeit and Quick, among others .

He first hit the headlines in February 1970 when he was attacked and beaten up in his apartment in West Berlin by members of the clique around Michael "Bommi" Baumann . The clique, which belonged to the militant foothills of the student movement , had falsely claimed that a report published shortly before in the Quick , in which their arson and bombing attacks were strongly condemned, had been written by Rieck. In addition to Baumann himself, Thomas Weisbecker , Georg von Rauch , Hans Peter Knoll and Anne-Katrin Bruhns were also involved in the attack .

During research on the subject of the drug scene and procurement prostitution , Horst Rieck observed a trial against a businessman who had paid young prostitutes for sexual services with heroin at the Moabit district court in Berlin on February 8, 1978. He asked one of the witnesses, then 15-year-old Christiane Felscherinow , for an interview. Rieck realized that the young girl's testimony was the material for a larger publication. The afternoon originally planned for the interview turned into two months, during which Rieck and his colleague Kai Hermann heard from the life story of the young Christiane almost daily. The tape protocols written down by Rieck and Hermann were published in autumn 1978 as a book under the title Wir Kinder vom Bahnhof Zoo after a partial preprint in stern . In 1980 and 1981 it became the best-selling book in the Federal Republic of Germany, translated into 15 languages and sold more than three million copies worldwide. Wir Kinder vom Bahnhof Zoo is compulsory reading in many German schools . Horst Rieck, Kai Hermann and Christiane Felscherinow exercised certain say in the 1980/81 film adaptation of the book under the title Christiane F. - Wir Kinder vom Bahnhof Zoo by Uli Edel (director) and Herman Weigel (screenplay).

Horst Rieck lives as a freelance journalist in Berlin. His work focuses on political and social issues.
