Gaëtan de Rochebouët

Gaëtan de Grimaudet de Rochebouët (born March 16, 1813 in Angers , † February 23, 1899 in Paris ) was a French general and politician.

After graduating from the École polytechnique in 1831, he became an officer and took part as a general in battles during the Second Empire and in the Franco-Prussian War . He served under the later President of the Third French Republic , Marshal Patrice de Mac-Mahon .

In November 1877 he formed a transitional cabinet as the successor to the Duke of Broglie . However, the opposition saw the new prime minister as a docile tool for the president and refused to work with Rochebouret. The threat of rejection of the budget led to Mac-Mahon dismissing the prime minister in December 1877 and appointing former prime minister Jules Dufaure .
