action

A hitchhiker with a suitcase full of toys is taken by a wealthy businessman in his 1965 Ford Galaxie 500 Convertible (convertible). The two first talk about the life of the businessman and the hitchhiker's hobby of collecting toys. When the businessman refuses to go out to dinner with the hitchhiker because he has an important meeting, the hitchhiker draws a gun and forces him to stop in front of a pub. There the hitchhiker lets the businessman serve a lot of food. The driver chokes down the food and tries to escape to his car, in which the hitchhiker is already waiting for him. Later the two get into conversation again, with the man talking about memories as if they were those of the businessman. In this conversation it turns out that the man is a madman who has escaped from the asylum and was given the name "jumping devil" because he always "wanted out of the box". The jumping devil managed to escape after murdering his keeper who gave him the nickname. The jumping devil sees the roles of him and the businessman apparently the other way around and now wants to bring the "madman" back to the insane asylum. When the hitchhiker forces the businessman to give him back "his" suit and wants to change, the businessman makes another attempt to escape, but is overtaken by the devil in his car. Later, the hitchhiker stopped at an emergency number to inform the police about the "escaped man". Then the businessman grabs the gun, which turns out to be one of the toys in the madman's trunk. The jumping devil chases the exhausted driver to an abandoned house when the police arrive. However, she doesn't believe a word of the hysterical driver and arrests him instead of the real jumping devil who drives away in the businessman's car.

backgrounds

  • Cameraman Gero Erhardt is the son of Heinz Erhardt and later made a name for himself as a director (including the legacy of the Guldenburgs )
  • Dieter Hallervorden likes to cite Der Springteufel as an example of the fact that in his career he has not only played the clothes-like roles that made him famous as Didi.
  • The Jumping Devil was repeated only a few times after its first broadcast in 1974. Before the film was released on DVD in November 2006, a rare video of the film was sold among fans at high collector prices.
  • When the film was still being sold in the form of video cassettes, the cover falsely suggested another "Didi" comedy: A picture from an actual "Didi" film was used as the cover, the description on the back praised the film as one Comedy in which "Didi" quickly finds his way around the world of the rich; the roles are reversed in the end and he is the friend of the rich man and his wife.
