action

After their honeymoon, the green ogre Shrek and Princess Fiona pay the royal family a visit. Fiona's parents, especially her father, are not very enthusiastic about their son-in-law and would rather see the handsome Prince Charming at their daughter's side. To get rid of Shrek, the king hires a hit man - Puss in Boots . The attack fails and Puss in Boots becomes Shrek's loyal companion. Together they steal a magic potion from Prince Charming's mother, the "fairy godmother". Shrek and the donkey both drink of it, whereupon they transform into an attractive young man and a noble horse. Fiona is also struck by the magic and takes on her human form.

The fairy godmother, whose character appears darker and darker as the film progresses, forces the king to give Fiona a magic potion. This is to ensure that Fiona falls in love with the man who kisses her first after taking the potion. While the fairy has Shrek arrested and imprisoned, Prince Charming pretends to be Shrek in human form to Fiona and tries to get her to kiss him at a ball.

Shrek escapes from prison and enters the castle to prevent the kiss between Fiona and Prince Charming. After Shrek has revealed himself in his human form Fiona, Prince Charming seizes Fiona and kisses her against her will. However, the king did not give his daughter the magic potion. Charming therefore receives a slap in the face instead of her love. The fairy, whose behavior and demeanor now finally corresponds to that of an evil witch, wants to destroy Shrek. The king jumps in between, his armor reflects the curse, the fairy bursts and Fiona's father becomes the frog king - his original form. Fiona decides to return to ogre form with Shrek by letting the deadline for the magic kiss pass. Fiona's mother takes the Frog King in her heart despite his new shape, because his character is now more human than before.

Reviews

“Imaginative film fun full of gags and rousing parodies. Even if the film lacks a dense center around the contour of which the detailed episodes would be spun, it is extremely enjoyable entertainment. "

The German Film and Media Assessment FBW in Wiesbaden awarded the film the rating particularly valuable.
