Peter "Pete" Yorn (born July 27, 1974 in Montville , New Jersey ) is an American singer-songwriter .

Life

Yorn grew up as the son of a dentist and a teacher in New Jersey. His first instrument was his brother's drums ; at the age of 12 he started playing the guitar .

Yorn graduated from Syracuse University , then moved to Los Angeles , where he was discovered by film producer Bradley Thomas , which resulted in Yorn's songs Strange Condition and Just Another in 2000 to the soundtrack of the film Me, both & she contributed. Just Another later also became Bandits! and the television series Dawson's Creek , Felicity, and Smallville .

In 2001, Yorn's debut album Musicfort was released after Columbia Records . The album placed on the Billboard charts , where it came to number 111, and reached gold status in the United States in April 2002 . For his second work Day I Forgot , which was published in 2003, Yorn worked with Peter Buck and Josh Freese , among others ; in the American charts he made it with this album to 18th ranked Three years later, another studio album was released: On Nightcrawler include Dave Grohl and the Dixie Chicks -members Martie Maguire and Natalie Maines to hear.

In 2009, Yorn first released the album Back & Forth , which was recorded by Saddle Creek producer Mike Mogis . In September of that year, Break Up was also released , which includes duets by Yorn with actress Scarlett Johansson .

Influences and relationships with other artists

Yorn is also responsible for a large number of cover versions: he recorded the Buzzcocks classic Ever Fallen In Love for the film Shrek 2 , and pieces by the Smiths , the Ramones , Elvis Presley , Bruce Springsteen and on his albums and various samplers Warren Zevon . He went on tour with REM , Dixie Chicks, David Bowie , Sunny Day Real Estate , Foo Fighters and Coldplay , among others. Phantom Planet and JJ72 acted as support bands for his own concerts . The Vines name Yorn as an influence. Yorn describes the Smiths, Velvet Underground , the Rolling Stones , the Stooges , Bob Dylan , the Beach Boys , Pavement and Guided by Voices as influences of his own .
