Guided by Voices
Guided by Voices (abbreviated GbV ) is an Independent - band to Robert Pollard from Dayton , Ohio , USA . The band is considered one of the pioneers of lo-fi .
history
GbV was founded in the early 1980s, but did not gain national fame until the early 1990s. The album Bee Thousand from 1994 is considered to be one of the milestones of lo-fi, and the single I Am a Scientist was one of the hits of the independent scene.
What is particularly striking about Guided by Voices is the high number of published songs. These are characterized by the relatively modest recording quality typical of Lo-Fi, their short duration of often less than two minutes, as well as unusual song structures with sometimes abrupt endings.
The group went through many line-up changes, with Pollard as the only constant member. In 2004, Pollard announced that it would terminate Guided by Voices at the end of the year. The last concert so far took place on December 31, 2004 in Chicago .
In 2011 the band reunited in the line-up of the 1990s. A new album called Let's Go Eat the Factory was released on January 24, 2012 and has since released an average of more than one album a year. The online radio station ByteFM described Guided By Voices with over 25 albums as "possibly the most productive group of their time".
