Conrad Vernon

Conrad Vernon (born July 11, 1968 in Lubbock , Texas ) is an American director , screenwriter , animator and voice actor .

Life

Vernon was born in Lubbock, Texas, where he grew up. Very early on, he had decided on a later career in the film industry, especially the animation films had done him. After school he enrolled at the California Institute of the Arts , where John Lasseter , Kelly Asbury and Brad Bird were trained. In 1992, one of his first jobs in the animation industry was drawing some characters in the action comedy Cool World , which combined real-life recordings with animated cartoons. This opened a door to the cartoon business for Vernon. From then on he worked on animated TV shows such as Rocko's Modern Life , Dexter's Laboratory or 2 Stupid Dogs . Finally he was hired as a storyboard artist for the Simpsons in 1994 .

DreamWorks Animation

In 1996, Vernon accepted a position as a storyboard artist with DreamWorks Animation . There he worked in 1998 on Antz , the company's first computer-animated film. Vernon fitted himself so well with the DreamWorks team that he helped produce Shrek in 2001 . In addition to his work as a draftsman, he gave the gingerbread man from the film his voice. Finally, in 2004, he was offered the opportunity to co-direct Shrek 2 alongside Andrew Adamson and Kelly Asbury . He continued to take on speaking roles in several DreamWorks productions such as Sinbad , Madagascar and Bee Movie . In 2009, Vernon co- directed the film Monsters vs. Aliens with Rob Letterman, which starred as Reese Witherspoon , Seth Rogen and Hugh Laurie . For two years he was the first to direct an adaptation of the Saturday morning cartoon series Lidsville from the 1970s.
