The Madagascar penguins on a pre-Christmas mission is an eleven-minute short film about the penguins from Madagascar that was shown in international cinemas from October 13, 2005 , before the animated film Wallace & Gromit: On the hunt for the giant rabbit . It is also included as a bonus on the Madagascar DVD. The film was developed at Dreamworks Animation Studios .

While the Christmas planning of the four penguins Kowalski, Private, Rico and Skipper , their boss, are in full swing, Private notices that Ted the polar bear is all alone on the holidays and wants to give him something for Christmas . Since the others don't support him, he goes to town to find a present for Ted . When the other three notice that he is missing, they set off to follow him.
Meanwhile, Private is bought by an old lady as a Christmas present for her dog, Mr. Chew . To save him, the others break into the old lady's apartment. There you have to take action against Mr. Chew first so that he doesn't eat Private . After the dog is stowed in the Christmas stocking, they make their way home. To do this, Rico , who had wanted to blow something up in three scenes earlier, blows the door open. After the way is clear and the old lady also believes that her dog has caused the chaos, they make their way back to the zoo . Finally they invite Ted the polar bear who, not to the great joy of the penguins, has invited all the other animals in the zoo, who then serenade them at the end .

Prequel / sequel
The Madagascar Penguins on their Christmas Mission is an offshoot of the film Madagascar . In November 2008, the sequel to Madagascar , Madagascar 2 , in which the penguins are also part of the game, started in the cinema.
In 2008/2009, an animated series entitled The Penguins from Madagascar was produced and has been broadcast on American television since March 28, 2009.
