Thomas "Tom" McGrath (* 7. August 1964 in Lynnwood , Washington ) is an American animator , screenwriter , director , voice actor , voice imitator and actor that stands out for the Madagascar became known films.
life and career
Tom McGrath took an early interest in film animation. This interest was awakened in him by comic shows on television; So he made smaller stop-motion films with his brother in which they used their cartoon characters. Tom McGrath grew up in Lynnwood and studied at the University of Washington , first in the Department of Industrial Design , and then in animation at the California School of Cinematic Arts learned McGrath directly from former animators who had already worked for the Disney Studios.
His first work as an animation designer and layout artist in animation was the film Cool World in 1992 . McGrath began his career in the film business as an animation employee for various film and television productions. In 1995 he was responsible for the storyboard of the series The Ren and Stimpy Show in two episodes . He worked as a set designer for the films Cats & Dogs and How the Grinch Stole Christmas .
In 2005 he directed the Dreamworks Animations cinema film Madagascar as a director with Eric Darnell . For this he was also active as a screenwriter, as with the first sequel. In 2008 the two cooperated again and Madagascar 2 was created . Four years later, Madagascar 3 followed: Escape through Europe . For these films McGrath was also active as a voice actor and took over the speaking voice of the skipper , also in the series The Penguins from Madagascar . He also appeared as a voice actor in other productions such as Shrek the Third (Gary). In 2010 he animated the film Megamind . Tom McGrath makes his directorial debut for an actual film version in the comedy Rentaghost with Ben Stiller , which is announced for 2013.
