Gary Trousdale (born June 8, 1960 ) is an American film director. His best-known films include the Disney productions Beauty and the Beast , The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Atlantis - The Secret of the Lost City . He has worked repeatedly with directors Kirk Wise and Don Hahn .

biography

Gary Trousdale wanted to be an architect first, but instead decided to study animation for three years at the California Institute of the Arts . He started designing storyboards and other animation in 1982 , then moved on to doing so for restaurant menus and t-shirts.

From 1985 he worked for the Walt Disney Company and animated the effects for Taran and the cauldron . He became known in 1991 for directing Beauty and the Beast and was nominated for an Oscar in the " Best Film " category . It also won an award from the Los Angeles Film Critics Association . In 1996 he directed The Hunchback of Notre Dame , 2001 Atlantis - The Secret of the Lost City .

In 2003 he switched to DreamWorks Animation , where he worked on short films such as The Madagascar Penguins in Pre-Christmas Mission (2005), Shrek - Oh you Shrekliche (2007) and Er-Shrek dich nicht! (2010) worked.
