The Mikeno is a volcano in the Virunga National Park in the Democratic Republic of the Congo . It is 4437 meters high and part of the Virunga mountain range , which extends partly on Congolese, Rwandan and partly Ugandan territory.

The Mikeno is located about 35 km northeast of the Congolese city of Goma . Together with the other mountains of the Virunga range, it was formed by the great African rift valley , where the Arabian plate is split off from the African plate . Most of it is covered with dense mountain rainforest and is home to the rare mountain gorillas . The Albert National Park was founded in 1925 to protect it, and in 1969 it was divided into the Volcano National Park on the Rwanda side and the Virunga National Park in the DR Congo.
