action

The mammoths Manni and Ellie, the sloth Sid, the saber-toothed tiger Diego and the opossums Crash and Eddie live together in a herd. Manni and Ellie are expecting their first baby, so Manni is only interested in making both their lives safe and comfortable. Diego fears he is effeminate and is considering leaving the herd. The clumsy Sid now also wants a family and comes across a few eggs, from which little Tyrannosaurus Rex hatch soon after. Sid has no control over them, and soon they wreak havoc in the herd. But then their mother shows up and takes their children and Sid with her. Diego, Manni, Ellie, Crash and Eddie follow them and get into a jungle under the ice in which dinosaurs have survived.

There a one-eyed weasel named Buck leads them to the lava falls where the tyrannosaurus brought Sid. Buck has lost his mind in the dinosaur world; He talks to himself, Stunts enjoys life and death and has a personal vendetta with Rudy, a Albino - Baryonyx , which cost him his eye and has the Buck knocked out for a tooth. Rudy remains mostly a dark and mysterious figure, you only hear and see that he is much bigger than the dinosaur mother who fears him. Meanwhile, Sid was not eaten, but accepted and taken in by the dinosaur mother. One day, however, he is attacked by Rudy. When Sid runs towards the lava flows to escape, the next danger comes; Rudy's gigantic entrance destroys the bank and it becomes large platforms that float down the lava flow. And so Sid drives towards the lava falls and threatens to fall down. In the meantime, Manni and Diego separate from Buck, Crash and Eddie. During a landslide, Ellie was the only one who didn't slide down with it. Manni and Diego make their way to Ellie, who is not only attacked by Guanlong , but also goes into labor. Manni stays down in the gorge to stop the guanlongs while Diego starts the ascent. A guanlong appears in front of him and seems to be the first to reach Ellie. But Diego, who had previously struggled with stamina problems, remains tough, overcomes his weakness and can thus save Ellie from the attack. Meanwhile, Manni fights the advancing attackers downstairs and manages to seal their cave and lock them up. When he also makes his way up, Diego fights with the dinosaurs that have already risen and is able to throw them back down. Manni arrives at the top in time to watch his daughter come into the world; the two decide to name their daughter Peaches . Meanwhile, Buck, Crash and Eddie are on their way to rescue Sid. To do this, Buck quickly hijacks a pteranodon on which the three fly in the direction of the lava falls. They are observed, pursued and finally attacked by some Quetzalcoatlus . Before they reach Sid, Buck is forced to change course to avoid being shot down. A rapid aerial battle breaks out between rocks and dinosaur legs. Crash and Eddie are tricked by Buck into collecting fruit, which they then use as defensive projectiles. Crash and Eddie are obviously having fun and they manage to intercept many of the attackers. But in a risky frontal attack, the pterosaur of the trio loses consciousness. Crash and Eddie take the helm while Buck climbs to his nose and begins mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. He succeeds in waking the trundling dinosaur and regaining control just before they hit. Buck steers the Pteranodon up the lava fall, in which the last four attackers hit, at high speed. Sid, on the other hand, who had been able to save himself by jumping from one drifting rock to the next, surrenders to his fate due to the lack of remaining rocks and falls into the depths. Fortunately for him, however, he is caught by the approaching team and so, after a small impact in the ice cover, they can start their way back to Manni, Ellie and Diego, where they learn about the happy event, the birth of Peaches.

Before they can leave the jungle, there is a big fight with Rudy. While Ellie and Peaches stay behind, Manni, Sid, and Diego Buck help fight Rudy. They manage to tie Rudy on the arms, legs and snout with lianas and bring him down. As the herd flees, Rudy wakes up. Sid gets stuck on a vine and tears it up. Rudy pulls himself free and goes after Sid, who can no longer escape in time. But shortly before Rudy can catch him, "Mama-Rex" saves him and pushes Rudy down a deep gorge, much to Buck's chagrin. The herd leaves the jungle and Buck closes the path behind them. Buck is later shown riding Rudy through the jungle.

Scrat, still chasing his nut, encounters a feisty female squirrel named Scratte. The two fight for the nut (an acorn) throughout the film until they finally fall in love. In the end, Scrat comes back to his nut, but loses it again due to an accident.
