Surviving Sid ( English ambiguously: Survivor Sid or Sid survive ) is an American animated short film by the production company Blue Sky , which was released in 2008. The sloth Sid is shown in the main role . The film is about a camping trip with Sid and numerous young animals, as a result of which the Grand Canyon is created.

For a camping trip for the aardvark girl Cindy, a hedgehog -, a beaver - and a Glyptodon boy , the animals go to the sloth Sid, who tries to get honey from a beehive and is instead hunted by the nested bees . Thereupon he goes on a hike with the animals and after initial joy, despite clumsy exertion, he is the only one happy after a march of 3:45 hours. He leads them to a campsite with his face painted all over the place and gets on the nerves of fellow hikers when he suddenly reacts strangely and falls over. Then they go fishing. When the hedgehog has caught a fish, the clumsy Sid hooks the line so that the captured animal falls back into the water. So he tries to get it back and ends up in the mouth of a larger fish.
When they want to have dinner that night, Sid can only offer the boys mushrooms on a stick. When they refuse to eat it, Sid decides to tell the boys a ghost story. The animals are scared by an extraordinary shadow formation, so that they run away. Shortly afterwards, Sid sees this too and also runs away when the croissant Scrat appears from a bush , which has swallowed his nut . He spits it out and it is immediately stolen from him by a toad .
The next morning Sid wakes up next to the still frightened animal pups. They blame Sid for her fear and say that the shadow came from him. He thinks, however, that this is ridiculous and that he would not harm any plant. However, in the process, he travels out a flower, which has the consequence that a tree is uprooted and it slides down a slope. A huge iceberg then falls through a chain reaction , creating the Grand Canyon. Sid tells the angry kids that this is called global warming . However, they tie him up and run happy and singing through the gorge.
20,000 years later, a beaver cub asks his father at the former campsite who did the Grand Canyons. He replies that this was done by nature or by an infinite wisdom.

Surviving Sid is one of the spin-offs in the Ice Age film series . The film was released in 2008 as bonus material for Horton Hear a Who! on DVD and Blu-Ray.
