Lindau ( Danish : Lindå or Lindaa ) is a district of the municipality of Boren in the Schleswig-Holstein district of Schleswig-Flensburg .

The place was first mentioned in 1488 under the name of van Linda . 1496 is the form tor Lyndowe . In 1877 the place got its current name. The name means Au bei (den) Linden . In order to avoid confusion, the term Lindau mill wood or Lindau mill wood is often used in old documents. The reason for this is the main street that runs through the village and is called Mühlenholz.

history
Until May 1, 1784 Gunneby also belonged to the Danish estate Lindau, which ended serfdom on this date.
The Galerie Holländer windmill from 1837 was renovated in 1985 and is operational.
On February 1, 1974, the once independent community of Lindau merged with the communities of Boren and Ketelsby to form the new large community of Boren. This was enlarged on March 1, 2013 by the communities Ekenis and Kiesby .
