Location of Gunneby in Schleswig-Holstein

Gunneby ( Danish : Gundeby ) is a small district of Ulsnis in the Schleswig-Holstein district of Schleswig-Flensburg .

geography

The place is not far from the Schlei , a glacial channel . Schleswig lies to the west . To the east is Kappeln . Flensburg and the border with Denmark are 35 km north . The place is dominated by agriculture and tourism is the main source of income.

history

Gunneby belonged to the Danish Lindau estate , which today belongs to the municipality of Boren . On May 1, 1784, serfdom against Gut Lindau was lifted in the village . The surveying and distribution of the property in the previous year resulted in five full Hufner positions and twelve Kätner positions.

Forced labor by prisoners of war from German-occupied territories was the norm in many places in Germany during the Second World War . There were also more than 120 forced laborers on duty in agriculture in the area of the Ulsnis municipality, mostly of Polish and Soviet origin. These were initially housed in three camps in the villages of Ulsnis, Kius and Gunneby. The Nazi authorities later allowed the forced laborers to be quartered directly on the farm.

After the congregation and church had refused to participate in commemorating the forced laborers, a plaque was attached to the house on September 2, 2000 on the private initiative of the residents of Schleidörferstrasse 29 for the village of Ulsnis as part of a ceremony to commemorate the forced laborers.

Before February 1, 1974, Gunneby belonged to the Kius parish , which was incorporated into the Ulsnis parish on that date.
