Surname

With regard to the meaning of the place name, there are two interpretations. On the one hand, the place name Old Norse kjōs is interpreted for (narrow) valley (cf. Icelandic kjós in the same meaning). According to another interpretation, the place name is derived from Old Norse kjōss , Old Danish kius (cf. Norwegian kjos ), which means bay .

The band Fuckin 'Kius Band (later F… Kius Band) was named after the village , a band from the comic figure Werner's circle , which gave concerts with peat rock , among other things, in the 1980s and 1990s .

In January 1973 a resolution was passed that provided for the incorporation of the once independent municipality of Kius into the municipality of Ulsnis. It was implemented on February 1, 1974. Before the incorporation, the neighboring town of Gunneby was part of the municipality.
