history

Kiesby was first mentioned in 1386. The place name means the village or settlement of Kisi .

The property of the old bakery and pastry & grocery store on the crossroad in Kiesby. A few years before the time of recording (mid-1950s) the mill that was originally in the field behind the stable was demolished.

Until about the end of the 1940s / beginning of the 1950s, there was a large windmill (a Dutch gallery ) near the crossroads in Kiesby , in which the flour of a bakery, confectionery and grocery store of national importance was ground. The buildings of the former bakery still exist today. Next to this bakery was one of the many regional small village schools of the Danish minority in the southern part of Schleswig , the so-called Kisby danske skole , whose premises are privately owned after its closure.

The Kiesby Shooting Sports Club has been based here since 1971 .

In 1992 a new fire station , which was largely built in-house, was inaugurated.

Since 1997 there has been "Dorpshuus Kiesby", which is mainly created by the volunteer fire brigade and shooters themselves. Celebrations, meetings and training courses take place here, and it is also the home of the riflemen.

The place is predominantly agricultural. In Kaltoft there is a sweet cider factory of national importance. There is also a metal construction company and a haulage company in town. Tourism is also an important source of income.

Two children's homes have established themselves in the relatively small town of Kiesby, which is why the average age of the village residents is rather low.
