Beginnings

The place name Satrup is interpreted as the "village of Soti". The village of Satrup, which has been a parish location since around 1200 (the late Romanesque stone church of Satrup was built in the 12th century), was first mentioned in 1407 as "Satorp". To the west of Satrup near the Mühlenbach there is a now barely recognizable hill, which in the Middle Ages was converted into a tower hill castle (Chateau de la Motte, Motte). In the north-west corner of the nave of the Satrup Church is walled in a relief with a knight's image, the "Satrup Horseman". The knight's costume suggests the 12th century and is considered the oldest image of a knight in Schleswig-Holstein. It served as a template for the Satrup coat of arms.

Satrup originally belonged to the Struxdorfharde . It was only released from it in 1657 when it fell to the Satrupholm estate . Since the landlords cut part of the village field into the Gutsland, only four of the seven farms remained. The number grew again due to the estate allotment in 1770. In 1871, the new Prussian government of Schleswig-Holstein formed the rural community of Satrup, in which just over 200 people lived at that time. In 1893 the municipality was expanded.

Since the 20th century

In 1928, the municipality was expanded again.

The Satrup church servant Hermann Jacobsen , who was born on December 13, 1890 in Estrupfeld , was denounced by a Satrup woman “out of personal vengeance” during the Nazi era . Jacobsen was sentenced to death by the People's Court in 1944 and executed in the Brandenburg-Görden prison on July 17, 1944. The informer received a three-year prison sentence after the war.

Every now and then it is mentioned that Heinrich Himmler was staying with his personal staff on a farm near Satrup in May 1945. Obviously, this means a farm near Kollerup , northwest of Satrup, but which already belongs to Großsolt .

In 1970 the previously independent communities Esmark, Obdrup and Rehberg were added. In 2002 Satrup was recognized as an environmentally friendly community. On March 1, 2013 Satrup merged with the neighboring communities Havetoftloit and Rüde to form Mittelangeln.

Religions

There are two Evangelical Lutheran parishes in Satrup . The largest is the parish of Satrup around the main church of the village. There is also a Danish community in the village ( Midtangels danske menighed ).

There is also a congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses in town .

In Satrup there is a grammar school, a community school, a primary school and a Danish school. There are also three kindergartens, a youth center and an outdoor pool. The Satruper Apotheke acted as the location for the television series " Der Landarzt ".

Former train stations

There are still two station buildings in Satrup. First, the Flensburg circular railway station was built as the first end point of its southern route, which was continued to Kappeln . On 14 July 1904, the built Schleswiger circular path from its opposite normalspurigen station its routes to the Schleswig -Altstadt. While the meter -gauge line offered its services until August 11, 1955, the standard-gauge line offered its passenger traffic until April 11, 1965 - freight traffic continued here until 1975.

Sports

The TSV Nordmark Satrup from 1921 is an established institution in village life. In addition to the relatively large football division, a wide and modern range of sports has developed over the years. In the early years of the club, however, there were two different clubs: TSV Satrup and FC Nordmark Satrup. In TSV mostly athletes were active and in FC the soccer players. The first soccer team of TSV Nordmark Satrup plays in the Association League Northwest.

The TST Satrup offers trampoline gymnastics; some of the members do gymnastics at a very high level. Since 1991 a big competition has been organized every year, the "International Baltic Sea Cup".
