In a Cologne city hospital , also known as the city clinic , doctors and nurses fight medical and human problems every day. In addition, fights, love affairs and intrigues arise among colleagues. Medical issues are the order of the day at the city clinic's doctors, and social controversies are also reflected here, for example in questions of euthanasia .
First of all, Professor Dr. Wilhelm Himmel the head of the hospital, later replaced by Professor Baaden.

Background and noteworthy
- The series is an adaptation of the Dutch series Medisch Centrum West, Amsterdam (1988–1994). The first 13 episodes of the Stadtklinik are based on the original scripts from this series.
- Several times, characters from the RTL series Die Wache have made a guest appearance, including Police Chief Inspector Ulf Schelling ( Bernd E. Jäger van boxes ).
- The series was produced by Endemol Entertainment in Cologne in the Marienhospital.
- In the repetition on RTL, a different version of the opening credits was broadcast in the first season than in the first broadcast.
- While seasons 1 to 18 each comprise between 12 to 16 episodes, the 9th season is exceptionally long with 33 episodes.
- The series was abruptly canceled by RTL during the 10th season despite acceptable ratings, so that the series has an open ending.
Publications
In August 2012, the film publisher Fernsehjuwelen released the first season (episodes 1–16) on DVD.
Since January 2013, the individual episodes of the series by Endemol beyond, the digital division of Endemol Germany, have been shown on YouTube .
Since December 2013, all episodes of the series have also been available on the video-on-demand portal RTLNOW .
