Klein Erna auf dem Jungfernstieg is a German fiction film directed by Hans Heinrich from 1969 . It is based on episodes from the Klein-Erna books and contains many of the typical Klein-Erna jokes.
action
Klein Erna has not seen her father Peter, who is at sea, for four years. Her mother Käthe works as a waitress in a small pub, so that Klein Erna and her friend Klein Heini in Hamburg usually do pranks unobserved . Since Klein Heini is the son of Käthe's boss and she always suspects the prankster in Klein Erna, Käthe is now threatened with dismissal.
Käthe and Peter once had a house in Övelgönne that they had to give up for financial reasons. Peter went to sea with a promise to return if he could buy the house back and had a permanent job. One day the time has come and Klein Erna meets Peter at the Övelgönner Haus. However, he still needs a permanent job, so he obliges Klein Erna to maintain secrecy towards Käthe.
Klein Erna has school holidays and thus a lot of time for jokes. First, she spends her vacation with her aunt Martha, who hates the child and oppresses her husband Fritz. Together, Erna and Fritz team up against Martha, who in the end is hospitalized for suspected rabies , although Erna only mixed her detergent into the orange juice and therefore foams. Little Erna now goes to her aunt Frieda, Peter's sister, but Alois Hintermoser has found an admirer in Bavaria with whom she wants to spend time. And so in the end Erna ends up with Grandpa Jensen, who works as a carer in the Hagenbeck zoo . Together with Heini, she keeps thinking up pranks, so that her mother is finally fired by her boss, Mrs. Nohr. She now has to apply for a new job, since she doesn't know that Peter is back in town and has since got a job as a hotel manager through relationships established on his sea voyage. Käthe applies for a job as a dishwasher at this hotel - and now sees her own husband in the director, who embraces her and kisses her. And little Erna, who tries kissing Heini right away, realizes that it will later become her hobby.

criticism
The lexicon of the international film criticized the "episodes about the famous Hamburg girl with the loose mouth, lined up on a thin thread of action" as "hardly original, mostly crude and gaudy. Undemanding entertainment. "
Cinema said: “This crude slapstick is really only recommended for hardcore Hanseatic fans and Heinz Erhardt fans! Conclusion: Thigh-knocking humor from the Waterkant. "
The Protestant Film Observer described the film as “a collection of Klein-Erna jokes packed into a poor plot. In the simple and unimaginative film, the play of the two child actors and that of the experienced comedian sometimes break the boredom. Probably too strenuous for children, poor and undemanding entertainment for adults. "
