Max Hermann Mahlmann

Max Herrmann Mahlmann (* 4 April 1912 in Hamburg , † 2000 in Wedel ) was a German painter of Constructivism .

life and work

Mahlmann studied from 1934 to 1938 as a pupil of Richard Müller at the Academy of Fine Arts in Dresden and initially worked as a stage painter and commercial artist . During the Second World War he was a soldier in the Russian campaign .

Mahlmann turned - strongly influenced by Wassili Kandinsky and Josef Albers - to non-representational painting after 1945 and concentrated on geometrical- constructivist compositions. In 1953 he married the likewise constructivist non-objective painter Gudrun Piper ; he always exhibited with her. From 1958 to 1977 he worked as a lecturer at the Fachhochschule für Gestaltung in Hamburg , from then on he worked as a freelance artist. The couple lived in Wedel near Hamburg until his death . Mahlmann's granddaughter is the singer, actress and presenter Oceana , born in Wedel.
