Heidi Oetinger

Heidi Oetinger (born November 19, 1908 in Dalkendorf ; † October 5, 2009 in Hamburg-Duvenstedt ) was a German publisher .

Life

The daughter of an Austrian and a German grew up in Hamburg and was initially a legal assistant in a maritime law firm. In 1948 she began her work, initially as a secretary at the Friedrich Oetinger publishing house. In 1952, as a widow, she married the publisher Friedrich Oetinger and built up the publishing house with him. After he retired from the publishing business at the end of the 1960s, she took over the management. She was actively involved in the management until the mid-1980s. Until the old age of 90, she still took part in the half-yearly representative meetings of the Friedrich Oetinger publishing group .

The daughter Silke Weitendorf comes from Heidi Oetinger's first marriage to Alfred von Hacht († Second World War ) . Together with Oetinger's grandchildren Jan and Till Weitendorf and Julia Bielenberg, she runs the Friedrich Oetinger publishing group.

She had a deep friendship with Astrid Lindgren .

Heidi Oetinger died on October 5th, 2009 at the age of 100, she was buried in the Waldfriedhof Wohldorf in Hamburg-Wohldorf-Ohlstedt .

Honors

For her special contribution to children's literature , Heidi Oetinger was not only awarded the Senator Biermann Ratjen Medal by the City of Hamburg , but was also named First Class Knight of the Royal Swedish North Star Order by the King of Sweden in 1988 . In recognition of her life's work, she received the Cross of Merit 1st Class of the Federal Republic of Germany on May 29, 2009 .
