Hans-Harder Biermann-Ratjen

Hans-Harder Biermann-Ratjen (born March 23, 1901 in Hamburg ; † April 25, 1969 there ) was a powerful representative of the German educated bourgeoisie and politician of the Free Democratic Party (FDP) after 1945 .

Life and work

Biermann-Ratjen, whose father had already been a notary, studied law after graduating from high school and was appointed notary in Hamburg in 1929 after passing the assessor examination and doctorate . He also worked as a writer on the side. Until his dismissal by the National Socialists in 1936 he was chairman of the Hamburger Kunstverein .

Political party

Biermann-Ratjen joined the FDP in February 1947 . He was mainly involved in cultural, but also in school politics. In the latter, for example, he spoke out in favor of freedom from learning materials for high school students and against six-year elementary school. From the end of 1949 Biermann-Ratjen participated within the Hamburg FDP in the Democratic Circle , in which the left wing of the state party came together. On January 20, 1951, he was among Harald Abatz , Emmy Beckmann , Lieselotte Anders , Anton reader and Max Dibbern of the signatories of the call for a liberal collection of Edgar Engelhard , which against the plans of the national associations of North Rhine-Westphalia , Lower Saxony and Hesse spent to turn the FDP into a party of the National Collection. From 1958 to 1967 he was a member of the board of trustees of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation .

Biermann-Ratjen was first elected to the Hamburg parliament in the constituency of Groß Flottbek in 1949 and belonged to it until 1957 and again from 1961 to 1963. From 1949 to 1953 he was deputy chairman of the FDP parliamentary group .

Public offices

Biermann-Ratjen was from June to December 2, 1945 and from 1953 to 1966 the Senator for Culture of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg. a. Gustaf Gründgens to Hamburg. Hans-Harder Biermann-Ratjen was buried in the Nienstedten cemetery in Hamburg.
