Norbert Aust

Norbert Aust (born May 2, 1943 in Liebau , Silesia ) is a German lawyer, entrepreneur and cultural manager . He has been President of the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce since April 2020 .

Life

Norbert Aust was born as the eldest son of a butcher. After the war, the mother and three sons moved to the vicinity of Sulingen ( Lower Saxony ), and the father was taken prisoner by Russia. The family did not get back together until 1949 and later moved to Delmenhorst , where the father opened a butcher shop again in 1952. Brother Reinhard later took over the business from his father and continued to run it.

Norbert Aust completed his Abitur in Delmenhorst, did military service and then studied law and economics in Hamburg .

From 1970 Aust worked full-time at the University of Economics and Politics (HWP), first as a research assistant, later as rector and finally from 1980 to 1992 as university president. In addition, he was involved in the Hamburg cultural scene in a variety of ways, including as chairman of the sponsoring association for the Kampnagel cultural center (1989–1991), as co-founder and long-term managing director of the private Schmidt-Theater , founder of the Hamburg School of Entertainment, board member of the Children's Museum Hamburg eV and spokesman for the Hamburger Theater eV association. Since 2013, Aust has also been the chairman of the Hamburg Tourism Association and a member of the supervisory board of Hamburg Marketing GmbH. In the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce , Aust is a member of the Tourism and Hospitality Committee as entrepreneur of ABH Visitor House GmbH and the Pierdrei Hotel Hafencity Hamburg hotel project . He has been President of the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce since April 2020 .

Aust is married and has six children, including daughter Tessa Aust, who took over the management of Schmidts Tivoli GmbH from her father in 2017 .

Awards

For his services, Aust was honored with the Biermann-Ratjen-Medal of the City of Hamburg in 2013 and with the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon in 2018 .
