Ildiko Barbu (born November 23, 1975 in Baia Mare ) is a former Romanian national handball player and current trainer.

career

In her youth Ildiko Barbu played at CSȘ 2 Baia Mare. In different age groups, she received two gold medals and three bronze medals in competitions. After another five years in the senior team, she played with CS Oltchim in six seasons at European level. After a year with Cornexi Alcoa (Hungary), she played for SD Itxako Estella , with which Ildiko Barbu reached the final of the EHF Cup . She moved back home and first played for Rulmentul Brașov for a season and finally moved to SCM Craiova in 2009 , where she ended her career in 2013.

In 1995 she won the gold medal at the U-20 women's handball world championship in Aracaju, Brazil. With the team she took part in three world championships (1999, 2001 and 2003) and three European championships (1996, 2000 and 2002). Ildiko Barbu is also a double silver medalist at the 1998 and 2000 World Championships. After her active career, Ildiko Barbu took over the SCM Râmnicu Vâlcea as a trainer. Two years later, she worked in some departments of the Romanian national women's team. In the end she took over the CNE Rm. Vâlcea.

Private

Until 2013 she taught sport in schools. Ildiko Barbu has been teaching at the university since the 2013/14 winter semester.

  • Gold at the U20 Balkan Cup in 1992 and at the U-20 World Handball Championship in 1995
  • Silver at the 1998 and 2000 World Championships
  • Gold in the Romanian League and the Romanian Cup, 1999, 2000, 2002 respectively.
  • Finalist in the Spanish and EHF Cup (2008)
