Hans-Dieter Loose

Hans-Dieter Loose (born March 18, 1937 in Hamburg ) is a German archivist and historian .

Hans-Dieter Loose studied history and German in Hamburg. He passed the first state examination in 1961. In 1962 he received his doctorate with a thesis on Hamburg-Danish relations during the Thirty Years' War . In the same year he started working at the Hamburg State Archives and was its director from 1975 to 2000. Since 1973 he has also worked as a lecturer and since 1981 as professor at the History Department of the University of Hamburg . Loose's research focus is the history of Hamburg. From 1975 to 2005 he was the first chairman of the Association for Hamburg History .
