Altona Singakademie

The Altona Singakademie is an amateur choir of around 40 singers from Hamburg . The Singakademie is a member of the Association of German Concert Choirs. In August 2017 she had an artistic director for the first time in Eva Hage. At the beginning of December 2019, Christoph Westphal took over the choir direction.

history

The choir was founded in 1853. It is one of the oldest in the metropolitan area.

In the course of its more than 160-year history, the Altona Singakademie has performed almost all known oratorios in collaboration with other Hamburg orchestras and other guest orchestras. Including the Verdi Requiem in 1990 with the Dresden Philharmonic , in 1995 Benjamin Britten's War Requiem on the 50th anniversary of the end of the Second World War with additional choirs, soloists and orchestras from England, Poland and Russia, and in 2003 the big anniversary concert for 150 years of existence of the Altona Singakademie and in 2013 Carmina Burana by Carl Orff in the Hamburg Laeiszhalle .

repertoire

The repertoire of the choir, which specializes in oratorios, includes works from the Baroque , Classical and Romantic periods as well as contemporary choral music from the 20th and 21st centuries.
