Ekkehard Numann

Ekkehard Nümann , also Ekkehard W. Nümann (born February 28, 1945 in Ehrhorn , Lower Saxony ) is a German lawyer . He is a cultural support association functionary in Hamburg and has been chairman of the Friends of the Kunsthalle association since 1989 . He is also President of the Federal Association of Friends of German Museums for Fine Arts and the World Federation of Friends of Museums (WFFM).

Life

After graduating from high school, Ekkehard Nümann was initially a temporary soldier for two years from 1965 , trained as an officer and is a lieutenant colonel in the reserve. He then studied law at the Universities of Hamburg and Strasbourg . In 1971 he passed his first state examination. He received his doctorate in 1974 - supervised by Werner Thieme - on the subject of the organization of human resources in the federal and state ministerial administration and passed his second state examination in the same year.

Between 1974 and 1979 he worked in the general higher administrative service of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg; most recently as senior councilor in the tax authority . According to his own information, he wanted to pursue a career in the Hamburg tax authorities, but became a notary assessor in 1979 and was a notary public in Hamburg from 1982. He left office in 2015 because he had reached the age limit. He was also a lecturer in inheritance law and the execution of wills at the German Lawyers Academy for several years .

Volunteering

For many years Nümann was chairman of the Ernst Barlach Society in Hamburg ; In 1987 the Ernst-Barlach-Museum Wedel was founded in his era .

Since 1989 Nümann has been chairman of the Friends of the Art Gallery . During his tenure, the number of members of the “fan club” - as he likes to call it - increased from around 2,800 to 18,000 (as of summer 2017). He himself has been associated with the association since studying law.

Coming as a member from the Free Academy of the Arts in Hamburg , Nümann was proposed in March 1992 as a SPD candidate of the SPD parliamentary group for a board member of the Hamburg Institute for New Media (HAM) . At HAM he headed the Legal and Finance Committee.

Since 2003 he has been President of the Federal Association of Friends of German Museums for Fine Art - an institution that now represents 86 associations with over 120,000 members. He has been chairman of the 26-member board of trustees of the Hamburg Scientific Foundation since 2004.

In July 2015, Nümann was elected President of the World Federation of Friends of Museums (WFFM) at its general assembly in Mexico City . In the previous electoral term, he had already acted as vice-president of the association, which represents over two million organized museum friends in sponsoring associations worldwide.

He is a longtime chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Foundation children's hospice in Hamburg, a founding member of the Hamburg Foundation Armin Sand Association and board member of the Schwarzkopf Foundation Young Europe , based in Berlin . Since 2018 he has been a member of the Rotary Club Hamburg-Speicherstadt and its membership representative.

Awards

In September 2007 Nümann was honored by the Senate von Beust II for his cultural achievements in Hamburg with the Senator Biermann Ratjen Medal . In May 2016, Senator Cornelia Prüfer-Storcks (SPD) presented him with the Federal Cross of Merit, 1st Class , for his commitment to the service of the Hamburger Kunsthalle and its circle of friends .

Private

Ekkehard Nümann is married to Ingrid Nümann-Seidewinkel ( SPD ), the former head of the Eimsbüttel district office and Hamburg Senator for Finance . The marriage resulted in two daughters. He is a passionate motorcyclist and owns a BMW R 1200 RT ; he is also the treasurer of the motorcycling doctors .
