Hamburg Institute for New Media

The Hamburg Institute for New Media (HAM) was the state media authority of the federal state of Hamburg until February 28, 2007 . The HAM was responsible for the approval of private radio and television programs as well as non-commercial local broadcasters . It made decisions about their distribution via antenna and cable network in Hamburg as well as via satellite. In the programs it licensed, HAM ensured compliance with statutory provisions such as the protection of minors , the program principles and advertising regulations.

The HAM-board consisted of seven members of the citizens , the Hamburg state parliament were elected (§ 38 HmbMedienG). Acting chairman was (2006) : Dietrich Sattler, pastor, head of the Rauhen Haus, proposed by the North Elbian Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Archdiocese of Hamburg .

The Hamburg Institute for New Media (HAM) merged on March 1, 2007 with the Independent State Authority for Broadcasting and New Media (ULR) of the State of Schleswig-Holstein to form the Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein Media Authority (MA HSH). Lothar Jene was director of HAM from 2000 to 2007 and served as acting director of MA HSH until his death in April 2007.
